Tokyo Ondo: words and music

Yakult (Japanese character)For years, Swallows fans have indulged in a ritual every time their team scores a run. The oendan (cheering section) begins playing Tokyo Ondo (WAV 463 kb), a traditional Japanese song, while fans open their umbrellas and sing the lyrics.

But but while the band is warming up, Yakult fans usually chant "Kutabare" ("screw you") to their opponents. It's petty and vindictive, but it's also a lot of fun.

Tokyo Ondo

Kutabare Yomiuri,
Kutabare Yomiuri,
Kutabare Yomiuri,
Kutabare Yomirui,

Ha-a, odori-o dorinara,
Choito Tokyo O-ondo, yoi! yoi!
Hana no miyako-o no.
Hana no miyako no ma nakade,
So re!
Ya to na so re yoi! yoi! yoi!
Ya to na so re yoi! yoi! yoi!

The lyrics above are for a game against the Yomiuri Giants, but the only thing that changes for other games is the team name after "kutabare." Against the Carp, Swallows fans chant "kutabare Hiroshima," and so on.
