Yakult (Japanese character)Want to get discounts on tickets to Swallows games? Meet players up close? Get free prizes? Participate in all the Fan Appreciation Day events with your favorite Yakult players? Whip out your Yakult Swallows Fan Club Members Card the next time someone accuses you of being a nobody?

Yes? Then you might want to check out the Swallows fan club.

In truth, fan club membership is pretty low key. No meetings or any other geeky activities. All you have to do is send in 5,000 yen (about $40 US dollars), and you can become an anonymous member. Children only have to pay 3,500 yen. In return, you'll get about 6,000 yen worth of free outfield unreserved tickets (for four games), a plastic tarp with the Swallows logo, a baseball cap, members card and a 1998 Swallows program.Yakult Swallows Fan Club Instead of the tarp, kids get a nylon waist pack. Members also receive a quarterly newsletter. If you plan on attending four or more games a year, you'll save money by becoming a member.

Especially for kids, membership means that you can participate in the Fan Appreciation Day activities with the team's top players. If you and your family plan on staying in Japan for a year or more, your kids might enjoy an opportunity like this.

To find out more about becoming a member, call (03) 3574-8932 (in Japanese), visit the official Yakult Swallows official home page (Japanese), or write (in Japanese) to the address below.

If you prefer, you can sign up for the fan club near Jingu Stadium's gate six (at the front of the ballpark) between 4:00 and 8:00 PM on any game day. But do it soon because there's a limited membership and most of the free tickets are available only for games before the all-star break (in late-July).
