Yakult Swallows news and transactions

April 12: After a dismal opening week, the Swallows finally got something to feel good about. In Nagoya, pitcher Kenjiro Kawasaki pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout, defeating the Dragons 6-0.

April 5: After an unproductive pre-season, 1997 MVP catcher was benched prior to Saturday's game. As reported in the press, Furuta suffered a bruise and experienced minor pain in his right arm after blocking a wild pitch by Yakult's Kazuhisa Ishii. Furuta should be ready to pitch by Tuesday, April 7.

March 27: After promoting Ryuji Miyade to the varsity team, the rookie hurler led all hurlers (who had compiled at least 18 innings) with a 1.89 ERA and 8.05 strikeouts per nine innings.
