(Welcome!)

Latham's 1998 Guide to Japanese Baseball: The Yakult Swallows Home Plate is the only web site in English introducing Tokyo's most exciting professional baseball team, the Yakult Swallows.

Watching Japanese baseball is seldom easy. Stadiums can be difficult to find, scoreboards are written in Japanese, players are unfamiliar, and little information is available in English. American spectators often ask, "Who are we cheering for?"

Here you'll find an answer: the Swallows.

Becoming familiar with all twelve teams and their players can be overwhelming. That's why this web site focuses on one team, introducing you to Swallows players, coaches, team records and history. You'll find out how to get to their home stadium, buy tickets, read the scoreboard, and cheer with the locals.

You can also read about the other eleven teams and their best players. Maps to every ballpark make it easy for you to see a game anywhere in Japan. An introduction to basic Japanese will help you read the scoreboard at any park. Since six pro baseball teams play in and around Japan's capital city, there's even a section dedicated to surviving in Tokyo.
