One of the main reasons this web site was constructed is that there's not a lot of English language information about Japanese baseball on the web. There may be a few good sites, but not many. Listed below are some of those sites, as well as pages related to the Japanese media and Major League Baseball. All of the listed sites are in English unless otherwise noted.

Japanese Baseball:

Japan Pro Yakyu this Week: Offering one of the most valuable Japanese baseball sites on the web, Michael Westbay writes a weekly update of the pro yakyu scene. Much of his information comes from Japan's daily sports papers (which he translates) but he also mixes in a lot of his own observations.

Jim Allen's Japanese Baseball Page: Jim Allen writes and publishes an annual guide to Japanese Baseball, one of the best available statistical analyses of the game. Clearly, however, most of his effort goes into the book. His web site offers a good introduction to the game and its history, but very little of the player and team analysis that makes his guide book so valuable.

Fantasy Baseball Japan: More than just Fantasy Baseball, this web site features interviews of players and other hard to get information in English.

Professional Baseball (Japan): An (official?) English language web site that supplies a lot of yakyu statistics from past years. This web site is one reason I avoided including a lot of stats in the home page you are now reading. Why be redundant?

Michiyo's Sports Page: Michiyo Ishida covers all Japanese sports and devotes a portion of her web site to baseball. Though somewhat thin, it's worth a look.

Jeff's Baseball Museum (Japanese): If you don't read Japanese, this may not be the site for you. But there are some interesting graphics and pictures from the past.

Yahoo! Japanese Baseball Scoreboard (Japanese): For those who need to see the scores from tonight's games NOW!, the Yahoo! scoreboard is an great resource. Since it's in Japanese, however, you have to have software that can read Japanese, and it helps considerably if you can read it too. If you can't make out what the page says, take a few minutes and learn how to read the Yahoo! scoreboard.

Official Japanese Baseball Team Pages:

Aside from the Hawks, who offer a modest English-language version of their official web site, you'll have to read Japanese to get much out of these pages:

Japanese Media:

Unfortunately, not even the English-language press gives much coverage of Japanese baseball--even in their print editions. So only rarely do they devote any kilobytes to the sport on-line. Still for those interested in things other than baseball, these web sites may offer some good information.

Daily Newspapers:
Asahi Evening News
Daily Yomiuri
Japan Times
Mainichi Daily News
Pacific Stars and Stripes

Magazines:
Tokyo Classifieds
Tokyo Journal
Tokyo Q: A weekly city guide

Major League Baseball:

Got an itch that can't be scratched simply by tuning in to a Japanese baseball game? Check out what's happening outside the land of yakyu.

ESPN SportsZone: In-depth information on all major sports, including baseball. Their player profiles are a great way to learn about foreigners bound for Japan.

The Baseball Server: Part of Nandonet's Sports Server, this is a good place to look for baseball scores. Japanese ball games are even listed, though sometimes the next day or later.

Fastball: A huge web site with lots of great information on Major and Minor League Baseball.

Total Baseball: Enough stats to satisfy any Major League baseball fan. If you can't find it elsewhere, this is the place to go.

CBS SportsLine: Lot's of headline news about the American version of yakyu.

Minor League Baseball: Find out what's shaking down on the farm and get information about minor leaguers headed to Japan.

Ballparks: Past, present and future Major League ballparks. Even if you're not an architecture or history buff, this web site is a must see.
